LaWana is from Oakland California currently residing in Greensboro North Carolina. LaWana is a 1997 Graduate from North Carolina A&T State University with a bachelors of Social Work and in 2014 earned a Masters degree in Human Services specializing in social and community services from Cappella University. In July of 2009 LaWana became a licensed minister of the gospel.
